For Lunar New Year in 2024, I was commissioned alongside the creative agency Clipped Co. and talented artists Melissa Mai and Steffie Yee to produce an animation to celebrate the Year of the Dragon for the Inner West Council of Sydney. This animation was then projected onto the Ashfield Civic Centre, becoming a public display for the thousands of people who ventured through the busy suburb.

The work invited us to consider our personal ties to Lunar New Year and our experiences as Asian artists living in the Inner West of Sydney. In my animation, I explore themes of nostalgia and childhood memories within Cantonese traditions, represented through fluid transitions and the the surreal colour palette of my work. Inherent to the piece is a renewed appreciation of ritual, especially living in a multi-cultural area which shared so many different traditions and beliefs, and the ways it anchors us to a sense of self.
